Something a little different for the Little pink typewriter blog…
A Master’s student (Editing and Publishing) from the University of Southern Queensland (incidentally, my home state) reached out to me to participate in her final-year research / thesis.
Her project, “Towards an Ethics of Editorial Care”, which covers contemporary editing practice, feminist studies and social justice, was both interesting and a great opportunity to reflect on my academic and working life – and how the industry and the editing profession has evolved.
With her permission, I thought I’d share her process, while keeping her name and research subject matter / questions private.
She conducted the interview via email, and, after my initial responses, she reached out to me with follow-up questions, providing feedback throughout:
“Hi Jeanette,
Thank you for sending your responses through. I’m thrilled to have an editor with your experience participate in my study… Your contributions so far have been very insightful and I’m looking forward to hearing more from you…
Now that I have finished the data collection phase of my Masters research, I wanted to thank you again for participating in the email interviews. Your interest in my study has been incredibly affirming, and your contributions have been invaluable. I am extremely grateful to be part of such a generous and wise community of Australian editors. Thank you for your time and for your thoughtful contributions.”
Likewise!
Thanks so much for the opportunity to participate in the research, and all the best with your thesis, and future in editing.
